Deosai Plateau is situated at an average elevation of 4,114 m above sea level. Deosai literally means ‘the land of Giants’ in Urdu. To sum it all up, this visit would be an ideal open door for those who might truly love to see the excellence of Pakistan at its pinnacle.

Itinerary

Begin your adventure from Islamabad, driving through the historical towns of Abbottabad and Mansehra. This route not only introduces you to the diverse landscapes of Pakistan but also to its rich history, including the famous Abbottabad, where British influence is evident in its architecture.

As you venture onto the Karakoram Highway (KKH), you’re tracing the Silk Road’s ancient pathways, now paved into a modern marvel that connects Pakistan with China. Lunch at a local restaurant offers traditional flavors that are a prelude to the culinary journey ahead.

Arriving in Chilas, the town serves as a gateway to the majestic mountain ranges of the North. The petroglyphs near Chilas, with inscriptions dating back to 500-1000 AD, offer a glimpse into the region’s rich history.

Overnight in Chilas.         

The journey today offers a rare sight where three of the world’s highest mountain ranges—the Himalayas, the Karakorams, and the Hindukush—meet. This point also offers a stunning view of Nanga Parbat (8,126 meters), the ninth highest mountain in the world, often called the “Killer Mountain” for its treacherous terrain.

Upon arrival in Skardu, the capital of Baltistan, you’re entering a realm of serene lakes, towering mountains, and lush valleys. This town is not just a base for expeditions but a captivating destination, with its rich history, culture, and the indomitable Indus River flowing through.

After Breakfast full day excursion to Satpara Lake & Deosai Plains.

  • Deosai National Park: Known as the ‘Land of Giants,’ Deosai is one of the highest plateaus in the world, sitting at an average elevation of 4,114 meters. It’s home to the Himalayan brown bear and a plethora of flora and fauna unique to its high-altitude ecosystem. The vast, unending plains against the backdrop of clear blue skies make Deosai a photographer’s paradise.
  • Satpara Lake: A natural lake that supplies water to Skardu Valley, it’s ideal for trout fishing and boating. The serene waters reflect the majestic beauty of the surrounding landscapes.

Drive back to Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel in Skardu.

After breakfast proceed for a full day excursion to Khaplu Fort, Old Chaqchan Mosque.

  • Khaplu Palace: Your visit to Khaplu Fort (Palace) introduces you to the architectural brilliance and heritage of the Balti people. Once the royal residence, it now serves as a museum and a cultural hub, preserving the history and stories of the region.
  • Chaqchan Mosque: One of the oldest mosques in the region, dating back to the 14th century, embodies Islamic architecture influenced by Tibetan aesthetics. It’s a testament to the rich cultural tapestry of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Dinner and Overnight Stay at hotel in Khaplu. 

After breakfast drive back to Shigar.
On the way visit Manthokha waterfall.
Hot lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
Visit local areas Shigar Fort, Old Amburiq Mosque.

Shigar Fort: Known as Fong Khar, which translates to “Palace on the Rock,” this restored 17th-century fort is now a heritage hotel offering a glimpse into the royal lifestyle of the past. The fort’s intricate woodwork and traditional architecture are mesmerizing.

Dinner and Overnight Stay at the hotel in Skardu. 

As you drive back to Chilas, reflect on the mesmerizing landscapes and the rich cultural experiences of the past days. The journey back is an opportunity to see the landscapes in a new light, with the changing times of day offering new perspectives.
